The African Connection, a "community radio station" belongs to every single member of the African Community, or those who might wish to identify with the African continent, African people and its culture and traditions. It is community-based broadcasting where community members produce and present their own programmes.
As oppossed to commercial radio we are radio made by the community, to the community, for the benefit of the community. Therefore as a community activity we will be planted and embedded into the community by many roots.
The African connection exists to serve two principal functions
To provide an outlet for cultural, political and artistic voices and opinions which are excluded by mainstream media
To provide social, cultural and educational gain for the community as a whole and for its individual members.
We are uniquely placed to make a difference to the African community by
Delivering skills
Boosting community pride, image and standing
Improving the delivery of services to them that need them the most
Reaching the isolated, the forgotten , and the marginalized
Offering individuals life changing opportunities
Offering the community as a whole a social hub.
In addition to all this we are obliged to locate segments of the community who are not involved and involve them, because community radio cannot be totally achieved untill the power of the people (various community groups within the community) meets with the power of the airwaves.
